Dr. Tou Teck Yong has been a fellow in the Academy of Science Malaysia (ASM) and the Institut Fizik Malaysia (IFM, ifm.org.my) where he is currently the President for the 3rd term. After completion of PhD, he joined as a postdoctoral fellow in the Institute for Advanced Studies, Australian National University in Canberra, Australia from 1987-89. There he worked on the magnetic field structures in helical-axis stellarator. Upon returning to Malaysia in 1989, he joined the Institute for Advanced Studies at Universiti Malaya, and became Associate Professor in 1993. 

Then in 1999, he joined Multimedia University ("MMU") as a professor in the Faculty of Engineering, teaching mainly microelectronic subjects at undergraduate and Master degrees. There his research covered ultrafast laser-matter interactions, pulsed laser deposition of thin films, solder alloys and solder-joint reliability, surface defects and atomic impurity migration in silicon wafer, organic light emitting diodes and solar cell. In total, he supervised/co-supervised more than 10 PhDs and 25 Masters. He has sat in various international committees for Asian Symposium on Intense Laser Science, AAPPS-DPP Conference on Plasma, Asia Pacific Physics Conferences. 

He served as the Vice President for R&D in MMU from 2008-2013, and retired from the university in 2018. However. he continued to co-supervise PhD candidates in MMU until October 2025, and also served adjunct professor in MMU, also in TAR Univ College and UCSI briefly

Dr. Tou has been on the Board of Trustees of Top Glove Foundation since 2008, and the R&D advisor for Top Glove Corporation since 2013, and Technical Advisor for Silicon Connect in 2025. 

He served as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director for Mikro MSC Berhad for more than 12 years prior to his retirement, and currently a Senior Independent Non-Executive Director for Powerwell Holdings Berhad.
