The Board of Directors ("the Board") of HEINEKEN Malaysia is pleased to announce that Datuk Iain John Lo has been named the successor to Dato' Sri Idris Jala, who will relinquish his positions as the Board Chairman and Director of HEINEKEN Malaysia with effect from 15 August 2026 in line with corporate governance practice relating to the nine-year tenure of an independent director. At the request of the Board, Dato' Sri Idris has kindly agreed to continue to support the HEINEKEN Malaysia Group ("the Group") as Advisor with effect from the same date.
The Board and Management extend their sincere appreciation to Dato' Sri Idris Jala for his leadership and valuable contributions to the Group over the past nine years. Since joining the Board in January 2017, he has guided the Group through significant challenges, including the brewery lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic, while also supporting strategic initiatives such as digital transformation, the strengthening of route-to-consumer capabilities and major brewery upgrades. The Board and Management have benefitted greatly from his experience, wisdom and counsel, and look forward to his continued support in his new role as Advisor to the Company.
Datuk Iain John Lo, 64, is a distinguished Malaysian corporate leader with extensive experience across the energy, banking and telecommunications sectors. He brings with him a wealth of leadership experience and valuable perspectives that will further strengthen the Board.
Datuk Iain spent over 30 years with Shell, culminating in his appointment as the Country Chairman of Shell Malaysia Limited, a position he held from 2012 until his retirement in March 2021. Throughout his tenure with Shell, he held a broad range of leadership roles across the exploration and production, gas and downstream businesses in Malaysia and internationally. He also served as Chairman of Shell Refining Company (Federation of Malaya) Berhad until the company was sold in 2016.
Datuk Iain is a Member of the Board of Guardians of the Sarawak Sovereign Wealth Future Fund. He is also an Independent Non-Executive Director of RHB Bank Berhad and RHB Investment Bank Berhad, and a board member of Sepang International Circuit Sdn Bhd.
Datuk Iain holds a Bachelor and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles.
Datuk Iain will assume the roles of Board Chairman and Independent Director of HEINEKEN Malaysia with effect from 15 August 2026. The Board and Management welcome his appointment and look forward to his leadership and guidance as the Group continues its transformation journey.
