Dato' Fong Chee Poong, aged 54 years old, served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Selangor Turf Club from Dec 2014 to Mar 2026, where he led the Club's strategic direction, business growth and operational excellence. With over 20 years of experience in corporate governance and leadership experience, he has established a strong track record and expertise in sports management, international bloodstock markets, and equine industry operations.He is currently driving the strategic direction of regional racing developments.
Dato' Fong has a strong profile in digital and commercial innovations where he pioneered high-profile commercial initiatives, including the planning and execution of digital equine auction platforms like the Community Horse Project Online Sale. In addition, he spearheaded with strategic planning for large-scale destination-based equestrian centers and world-class regional equine ecosystems. His leadership brought together key stakeholders to develop an integrated ecosystem that supports talent development, commercial opportunities and long-term industry advancement.
Recognized for his strong record in institutional financial oversight, Dato' Fong is serving concurrently as the Honorary Treasurer of the Equestrian Association of Malaysia and Treasurer for Riding for the Disabled Association of Malaysia, since 2016 and 2019 respectively.
In 2019 to 2022, he was appointed to Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia ("LTM"), a statutory body under the Ministry of Finance which regulates the horse-racing industry in Malaysia, as a Steering Committee Member of Horse Racing Industry Blueprint. In Aug 2024, he was once again appointed to LTM as its Board member.
In recognition of Dato' Fong's contributions to the growth and development of the industry, he was conferred the "Darjah Kebesaran Jiwa Mahkota Kelantan Yang Amat Mulia" (D.J.M.K) which carries the title "DATO" by His Royal Highness the Sultan of Kelantan, DYMM Sultan Muhammad V on 30 Sept 2023. |
