| Working experience and occupation | Shahril, graduated with an LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Buckingham, England in 1986 and was admitted to the Malaysian legal practice in 1988. Shahril was formerly with Zaid Ibrahim & Co. where he was a Partner (and simultaneously Partner of the then Andersen Legal Worldwide Network).
He has advised on a wide range of privatisation and Government related matters and compliance with the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements. Shahril has extensive experience in the privatisation of highways, utilities and ports both in Malaysia and abroad. He has in the past been regularly consulted by the Prime Minister Department, the Ministry of Finance and other ministries, on issues relating to privatisation, hence enjoyed a good relationship with the Malaysian Government.
Shahril is also familiar with the International Civil Aviation Organisation ("ICAO") regulations and the international conventions to which Malaysia is a signatory.
Apart from his dealings with the Malaysian Government, he is familiar in leading negotiations with various foreign governments as well, on behalf of Malaysian clients. Among the major assignments undertaken locally and overseas include the development of an Independent Power Plant in Mongolia, the construction, operation and maintenance of the North-South Expressway project and several other highways in Malaysia including the Second Link Highway connecting Tanjong Kupang in Johor with Tuas in Singapore. He was also the legal adviser in respect of the Power Purchase Agreement and the Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract for the Bakun hydro-electric dam project in Sarawak.
In 2019, Shahril had, through his company Golden Skies Ventures Sdn Bhd, submitted a bidding for the take-over of Malaysia Aviation Group Bhd (the holding company of Malaysia Airlines Bhd). |
